3) The Promised Neverland

The Promised Neverland (TV Series 2019– ) - IMDb

This anime is definitely creepy at times. It takes place at what first appears to be a normal orphanage but it isn't. It's a farm and what is being grown is the children. When they reach a certain age the children have to leave, but they can start to be taken at six. When they are taken depends on the kids' intelligence. When Emma and Norman discover the awful truth they come up with a plan in order to escape with everyone.

4) Death Note

Top 5 Halloween Reads

 1) Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

Pumpkinheads: Amazon.ca: Rowell, Rainbow, Stern, Sarah, Hicks, Faith Erin: Books

This cute graphic novel takes place at a pumpkin patch on Halloween. It's the last year that both of the main characters can work there since they will be graduating high school and going to college the next year. I loved following the characters as they went around the patch in order to find the girl that Josiah had a crush on ever since he started working at the patch. If you are looking for more of a cute than scary Halloween read this one might be for you.

2) Coraline by Neil Gaiman

Coraline - Wikipedia

If you haven't seen the movie for this book I also recommend that, but this story will definitely give you some chills. This book follows a young girl Coraline and after moving to a new house she goes exploring. The house has 14 doors but one of them is locked. One night she opens the door and discovers another world. A world that seems better in every way but it's not what it seems.

3) Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Frankenstein | Book by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Bernie Wrightson, Stephen King | Official Publisher Page | Simon & Schuster

I wanted to include at least one classic on this list so I decided to include Frankenstein. This book is really good and is something that can take awhile if you want to analyze it in depth. I feel like I don't need to explain this one as much though since I feel like everyone knows the general gist of what Frankenstein is about.

4) Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead

I love this book. I personally have not year Vampire Academy which this series is a spin-off of but I love Bloodlines. In this world, there are different kinds of vampires. There is the kind which is just like the kind you hear about in scary stories, then there is another kind which are more like normal humans except they have powers. Anyways this book isn't scary or anything but I thought I would include it since it does have vampires, and some people don't necessarily like to read scary books.

5) This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

This Savage Song: Amazon.ca: Schwab, Victoria: Books

In this world, there is a city divided into two parts. A city where violence has started to take on a living form as actual monsters. But not all monsters are bad, and sometimes the real monster is someone who is actually human. Anyways this book is absolutely incredible and one of my favorite books by Victoria/ V.E. Schwab.

The Shadows Between Us Review

The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

Title: The Shadows Between Us

Author: Tricia Levenseller

Publisher: Feiwel and Friends

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Story:

This book follows Allessandra who after having her heart broken killed the boy who did it and swore to never give her heart to anyone again.

After that her goal was to win The Shadow King's heart and after she became queen kill him so she could rule over the kingdoms.

I loved the romance in this book between Kallias and Allessandra. I also like the fact that Allessandra was very much her own woman and would do things for herself.

I really also enjoy the fact that she made good friends with other girls at the castle and helped them find love as well.

Also, this was truly a romance where you didn't know whether or not she was going to kill him or let him live until near the end of the book.

I also really liked the plot twist with one of the characters who I won't mention because I want to try to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible.

Now getting into the things I didn't like.

I didn't like the way Allessandra was treated by both her father and her sister, but I also didn't like the way she treated and talked about them in return.

Allessandra would also use men for her own personal gain and if the gender of her character in the book was reversed I feel like more people would be upset about it.

Also, her character was almost too perfect. I mean she basically faces no repercussions for any of her actions, she can make all these amazing outfits from scratch, and she can attract any guy she wants.

Also, the fact that she killed her first boyfriend because he fell in love with someone else after using her was a bit much. I mean I get it he was an asshole but still, did she really have to kill him?

I also didn't like the way Kallias wouldn't listen to her after a vile containing a certain substance was found in the wardrobe of her bedroom. You would think that they had overcome enough at this point that he would have listened to her.

Quotes:

“Waiting. Not waiting. One lover. A hundred lovers. There should be no judgment either way. A woman is not defined by what she does or doesn‘t do in the bedroom.”

“I think that when you care enough for someone, you reach a point where it's far more painful not to have him at all than to have him and risk losing him. You realize the risk is worth it. Because happiness, however short-lived, is always worth it.”

“All the time in the world is worth nothing if I don't get to spend it with you.”

Would I recommend:

I would definitely recommend this to people who like young adult fantasy books. Especially if one of your favorite tropes is enemies to lovers.

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell Review

Pumpkinheads: Amazon.ca: Rowell, Rainbow, Stern, Sarah, Hicks, Faith Erin: Books

Title: Pumpkinheads

Author: Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks

Publisher: First Second

Rating: 5/5 stars

Story: This is a graphic novel about two friends Josiah and Deja who work at a pumpkin patch every year. Since this is the last year they will be able to work at the patch Deja decides to help Josiah speak to the girl he has had a crush on for years. However on the journey to speak with her they have to deal with a series of challenges which makes Josiah realize that the girl he was in, love with all along was someone he already knew very well.

The premise of this story was so cute, and I loved the art style of the graphic novel. I also thought while it was short I was able to get attached to the characters of Deja and Josiah.

I really like the way that Josiah stuck up for Deja especially when the children were insulting her about her weight. I also like the fact that the map in the book shows all the locations they went to.

I also love the representation in this book.

This book also left me definitely wanting some pumpkin pie.

Quotes:

- "I'm your friend. And friends don't let friends live small lives."

- "Deja, I don't want October to be over. Because October means you."

Would I recommend: I highly recommend this to other people who like graphic novels. As well as people who like pumpkins, and romances as sweet as candy.
